COALESCE
COALESCE is a stimulating collaborative dance experience. Dancers unite, exploring human thoughts, interactions, and connections during chance encounters with strangers.
Las Vegas’ Red Desert Dance joined Harper Continuum Dance Theatre in a bi-coastal collaboration leading dancers and audience members on a journey through humanity.
Cathy Allen’s Red Desert Dance Ensemble begins with "Strangers on the Street." Inspired by the popular Humans of New York blog, the piece examines “Strangers”... passing, thinking, rushing, pausing, reflecting, briefly connecting; then gone.
Heather Harper’s Harper Continuum Dance Theatre kicks off the show's second section by delving into social isolation by swaying audience members to revisit social ideology through thought-provoking motion.
The choreography focuses on the rare moments when strangers do connect and remain linked. These infrequent relationships have lasting effects that mold us into who we are.
The multifaceted performance incorporates music, spoken word poetry, live vocals, and live abstract painting influenced by the dancers. The choreography was taught using virtual rehearsal—in New York City, Richmond, VA, Las Vegas, NV, and Venice, Italy. The dancers were introduced to one another in time for the performances of COALESCE, furthering the concert’s theme.
